Ricky Gervais’ Weight Loss Motivation

Ricky Gervais, the 49-year-old comedian, lost about 20lbs after he realized that he was overweight and that his fat might kill him.

“I thought enough is enough. I need to look after myself. I am nearly 50 – I don’t want to die,” he confessed. “It’s nothing to do with Hollywood or looking good. This is a health thing.”

The comedian started doing a regular workout routine that included every day exercise for an hour and going for a run on Hampstad Heath in order to get slimmer.

“I have got fit after running around Hampstead. I also have a gym in my house – well it is a bit like a spa. But I really work out,” he said.  “I have lost about 20lbs. I think that is enough. I haven’t stopped eating anything – it is just exercise.”

The English celebrity said he’s now happy with his new fit body and that he’ll continue to work out to maintain his current figure.

“I don’t want to blow it. So now, everything’s great.”

The comedian’s ambition to lose weight had nothing to do with fitting in the Hollywood scene, but with his overweight body and lack of exercise that, he thought, might as well lead to a heart attack.

“And you’re going to die at the age of 51 of a heart attack, you fat idiot,” he said ironically.

Gervais is known for his thoughts on obesity and people that don’t exercise at all. In his podcast The Ricky Gervais Guide To Medicine, the comedian said that only “lazy fat pigs” would have stomach surgery to get slimmer and lose some weight.

“They have bits sliced off and tied up and sucked out. I want to say to them, “You lazy fat pig. Just go for a run and stop eating burgers. You might die,” he said. “If you’re a*** is too fat, stop eating and go for a run.”
